Take A Journey with Me | Between the Headphones 1

November 23, 2016

I am DJ Shawna and I welcome you to take this journey with me as I step out of my comfort zone to accomplish my goal of making as many people smile as humanly possible.

I am a DJ from Milwaukee, WI embarking on an adventure I never saw coming. I want to inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and #DareToBe the absolute best YOU that you can be!

My djing career started nearly a decade ago, sometime in 2007, maybe 2006, I started playing with turntables when the group of people I spent the most time with hung out often at bars and clubs. Being a non-drinker, I honestly became incredibly bored. I quickly learned people around me got quite uncomfortable when I didn’t have a drink in my hands.

Water glasses just weren’t cutting it anymore. I started leaning against the wall near the DJ booth for hours.  Night upon night for what seemed like months, until he finally looked over at me and asked if I was a DJ. I shook my head no. “Do you want to be?” He asked.

The next two seemingly simple words that came out of my mouth ultimately changed my life forever.

“Sure. Yeah.” I responded.

“Get some turntables and a mixer and call me.” He added.

I called him the next day.

It’s crazy to look back now at the last ten years. I feel old saying how quickly it feels it has flown by, but it has. If you told me ten years ago that I would be a professional DJ, djing for thousands of people at huge events, festivals, and in major bars and clubs throughout the Midwest, I would have stared at you blankly. Obviously, you would have been from the future and used your superpowers to come back and forewarn me to “START NOW!”

Thank you, future you. Thank you.

Here I am, ten years later, a professional DJ doing what I love every night. Making as many people smile as humanly possible. And now, I followed another lifelong dream of mine by starting a clothing line that inspires me and others daily to keep moving forward.

I want you to go out and challenge yourself to face your fear.

It can be something so simple as saying hi to that cute barista that hands you your venti non-fat, double shot, dirty chai latte on Thursdays.

But do it.

And do it today.

Like right now.

And I promise you that you will not be disappointed, no matter what the outcome.

Until next time….#DareToBe
