Why Am I Doing This? | Between the Headphones 3

December 7, 2016

Why am I taking this motivational and inspirational approach when I’m a DJ?

My job is to play music and be part of throwing a great party…right?

Definitely!

Let me back up for a minute…I have been a basketball player my entire life.

Literally, I swear I came out of the womb holding a mini basketball and did not let go of it until I had to make the decision to walk away from the game I love so dearly.

Something I learned along the way during my career was to be more than a basketball player.

We were taught to use our platform and talents to inspire and help others.

So here I am today, a retired professional basketball player that has been DJing for a decade, wanting to help and inspire others still.

Music has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember.

Basketball and music went together for me like Michael Jordan and the Tune Squad. I couldn’t have one without the other.

Being a professional DJ, I want to continue to use my platform and influence and inspire people through music.

It’s why I am not ashamed to play songs from your childhood that make you smile and sing at the top of your lungs at 1am.

It’s why I got into modeling.

I wanted to play dress up and see how far I could push myself out of my comfort zone, because I want YOU to see that if I can do it, so can you.

I wanted to be more than a DJ.

I want to help you realize your potential while also maximizing mine.

There you have it.

I want to inspire you.

I want to move you.

I want to make you feel something.

I want you to listen to that tiny voice that is dying to scream that’s hiding deep inside of you.

I want to challenge you to be more.

Do more.

The world needs more awesome.

More happy.

More good.

And I KNOW you have a lot to offer that we all need; that I need.

So get up, be awesome, and #DareToBe!
