Pay It Forward | Between the Headphones 17

March 22, 2017

I enjoy helping people when I can.

I get satisfaction out of it, really.

It makes me feel fulfilled and, honestly, one of my absolute favorite things to do is the cliché “help someone that cannot give you anything in return.”

It’s simple things, really, that I don’t need to go into great detail about because I don’t ever do these small tasks for acknowledgement.

I don’t post about them on Facebook as a #HumbleBrag.

I don’t even talk about it after it’s over and done with.

I believe in leading by example and having my actions speak louder than words.

Maybe it has to do with how I was raised and how I was taught to treat people.

I am not perfect, but I take pride in treating people the way I would want them to treat one of my loved ones.

So this is tricky for me to write about, as I am not interested in accolades or “credit” for doing something that I think anyone can do.

That we all should do.

That we all are capable of doing.

I am interested in, though, recognizing that I have not gotten to where I am in my career without people helping me, going out of their way, vouching for me, giving me a chance, or believing in me.

No one ever has been successful on their own.

No one.

I believe it is so important to surround ourselves with people that support our vision, that push us and challenge us, and that will keep us in check.

I keep my circle small and tight, admittedly.

I can’t do this alone and I am beyond grateful for every single opportunity that has been given to me throughout my career.

I feel lucky when I can pass that along to someone else and help open a door, as so many before me have done.

This leaves me with a couple of final thoughts:

First:

Please, be kind and humble and grateful.

Always.

Thank those that think of you, those that reach out to you and put you in contact with someone to provide an opportunity you otherwise might not have had.

Secondly:

Show up.

When this opportunity arrives, be ready.

Control what you can and give it 100%, because it’s not only your name and reputation on the line.

Show.

Up.

Thirdly:

Pay it forward.

It doesn’t take much.

Be genuine and let go of your insecurities and fears and help someone when possible.

Far too often we compete with our peers for the wrong reasons, when we really are afraid, or threatened, or honestly, just lazy.

That’s it.

I think it’s quite simple.

So, thank you, again and again for your continued love and support.

For your posts and messages.

For your purchases from daretobeclothing.com and for believing in our message, #DareToBe

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Always,

#DareToBe
