Don't Be Afraid to Make Mistakes | Between the Headphones 12
“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes”…
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have said this to a gym full of basketball players.
We are supposed to make a mistake, and then learn from it, right?
Sometimes that learning curve takes one more rep and sometimes it can take years.
This is true, in my opinion, across the board in life.
Somewhere perfection was expected and flaws, or bumps in the road, were looked down upon. Or better yet, as a weakness.
These moments that often seem to outweigh the “wins” definitely test us.
At least they have tested me.
The issue with this though, I KNOW I can do anything I put my mind to.
I know this with all of me.
Because I have already accomplished so many goals that other people laughed at me for trying, literally for years.
I am not sure yet if I am really stubborn or I have grit.
Everyone looks at that different.
I feel stubborn and I work extremely hard.
When I falter and make a mistake, I am human and I question myself. It happens all the time, admittedly.
In that moment I want to throw my hands up in the air and I want to walk away.
My ego hurts.
My heart hurts.
I am physically exhausted.
And sometimes, frankly, out of ideas.
Usually what happens, though after this wave of emotions literally rushes through me head to toe, I am more motivated than before to continue moving forward with my goal.
After having gone through this process so many times in my life, I can only come to one major conclusion:
When things don’t go your way, or the way you thought they were going to go, when you fail, fall, falter, hit a bump, or have a hiccup I honestly believe with all of me that this is a test.
It’s a test to see how badly you want it.
Nothing worth having ever came easy to anyone.
Be honest with yourself, communicate, learn, grow, and give it all you have for as long as it takes to reach your goal.
I can assure you that you will not be disappointed and you will have one incredible story to share when that happens.
